IB Middle and High School Science Teacher (IB DP / MYP) Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS)

The school is seeking a skilled and reflective Middle and High School Science Teacher to teach within the IB Middle Years Programme and high school science courses, with clear alignment to the Diploma Programme Environmental Systems and Societies ESS. The successful candidate will foster scientific inquiry, environmental awareness, and critical thinking through engaging, student centered instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
• Teach inquiry based science courses in grades 6 to 10 MYP and designated high school science courses.
• Prepare students for future success in Diploma Programme sciences, particularly Environmental Systems and Societies ESS.
• Design engaging lessons that integrate real world contexts, environmental systems, and human impact.
• Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and ensure inclusive classroom practice.
Curriculum and Collaboration
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment across MYP Sciences and DP ESS.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary planning that connects science with individuals and societies.
• Support sustainability focused initiatives and experiential learning opportunities, including laboratory and fieldwork.
Assessment and Feedback
• Use formative and summative assessment aligned with IB criteria.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate student progress effectively with families.
Professional Engagement
• Participate in IB professional development and departmental collaboration.
• Engage in ongoing reflection and professional growth related to science education and sustainability.
• Support student projects such as the MYP Personal Project and IB Internal Assessments.
Student Support and School Life
• Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, particularly during laboratory and fieldwork activities.
• Contribute positively to school life through supervision, clubs, or extracurricular activities such as Science Club, STEM activities, or Eco Club.
• Assist with school events and supervision duties as assigned.
Additional Duties
• Supervise at least one after school sport, club, or activity.
• Chaperone one after school event such as prom or school socials.
• Assist with school day duties including break and lunchtime supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Middle and High School Principal.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialization in Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Teaching certification or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably in an IB MYP or DP setting.
• Strong understanding of IB philosophy, inquiry based learning, and interdisciplinary teaching.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to student centered learning and environmental responsibility.
