Student Life at M’KIS
At M'KIS, our aim is to challenge and support our students academically and empower them to become thoughtful and transformative global citizens. From our athletic fields to our theater stage, M’KIS students are engaged and supported by a community of parents, faculty, and staff that cares deeply about their success.
School Hour
Snacks & Lunch
Grade 9 to Grade 12 students purchase their meals a la carte.
M’KIS families can purchase and pre-pay for their student’s meals via a seamless, online website. All food is prepared with a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, vegetables, and fruits to ensure healthy minds and bodies. Students can also bring their own lunch to school if families choose not to opt for the school lunch plan.
Uniforms
High School
In High School (Grade 9 to Grade 12), students wear white polo shirts and black shorts/skirts.
Physical Education
All students wear gray sports shirts and PE shorts for Physical Education.
Optional Items
Students also have the option of purchasing additional items such as sweatshirts, swimsuits, and more from our School Store.
All items are available in the school store (next to the cafeteria).
Classroom Technology
Technology plays a vital part in our curriculum, and we invest heavily in ensuring that our students are prepared to face the future. We run a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for our Grade 6 to Grade 12 students. BYOD requires students to provide their own, personal mobile devices, such as laptops and Chromebooks. Our BYOD policy encourages students to use devices that they are comfortable with and to take responsibility for safe-keeping and usage of their own device.
Information Technology Education offered at M’KIS prepares students with the technical, practical and social attributes considered key to high performance in a digital world. Using an integrated model, teachers are asked not to pause the teaching of daily academics to “do technology”, but to employ information tools, where reasonable, to make core subjects more exciting, interactive, collaborative and productive.
Our Information Technology program uses a set of standards and benchmarks inspired by NETS for Students, and which emphasize:
- Collaborative activities which stimulate productivity, communication, and creativity
- Accommodation of diverse, multi-modal learning styles
- Flexibility and imagination in making use of current and emerging digital technologies
- Awareness of social and ethical issues affecting our digital and actual lives
