Primary Functions
• Provide guidance lessons to students in grades 1 through 5.
• Provide responsive support to students in Pre-K through grade 5.
• Serve as a member of the Student Support Services Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Guidance Curriculum and Instruction
1. Deliver guidance lessons to all students in grades 1–5 in accordance with the specified curriculum, covering topics such as social skills, safety, understanding self and others, multi-cultural relationships, communication, problem solving, and handling transitions.
2. Develop curriculum maps for all guidance units to ensure alignment with student needs and developmental stages.
Student Support and Counseling
3. Support individual student planning in areas such as decision-making, personal challenges, transition planning, and problem resolution.
4. Respond to student needs using a variety of methods, including individual and small group counseling, crisis intervention, peer facilitation, and consultation with staff and families.
5. Participate in Student Support Team meetings as requested by the Principal or Coordinator—Student Support Services.
Records and Student Information Management
6. Oversee and maintain cumulative file updates for students in Pre-K through grade 5.
7. Ensure all cumulative files are effectively organized and accessible for instructional and administrative purposes.
8. Conduct individual meetings with newly accepted students and their parents to support successful transition into the school.
Family and Faculty Engagement
9. Assist with class placement for new students and provide academic and behavioral information to teachers in advance of student arrival.
10. Develop and implement parent and faculty in-service programs to support student well-being and learning.
Additional Responsibilities
11. Collaborate with school leadership, staff, and Student Support Services to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
12. Assume other responsibilities as directed by the Principal, Coordinator for Student Support Services, or Head of School.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Appropriate counseling certification or license.
• Minimum of three years of experience in school counseling, preferably in an elementary or IB PYP setting.
• Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning, and counseling best practices.
• Ability to support students in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with guidance curriculum development and student support strategies.
