Nurturing Music Education: Reflections from the EARCOS Teacher Conference

By: Dr. Ece Genis, Lower Elementary School Music Teacher

On March 20-22, 2025, M’KIS teachers participated in the 20th Annual EARCOS Teachers Conference, held at ISKL.

This experience was truly memorable. Beyond a typical conference, EARCOS created a vibrant learning atmosphere that brought educators together to rejuvenate their knowledge, share ideas, and discover new teaching methodologies. Our teachers came back filled with inspiration and ready to incorporate fresh tools and strategies into their instruction.

I delivered a presentation titled ‘Nurturing Artistic Behavior Through Music in Elementary School’ to over 40 attendees at EARCOS. The audience comprised music educators from various international schools across East and South Asia, all of whom showed great interest in the topic.

The session exceeded expectations and the response was remarkable! Teachers reached out for days after the conference, eager to discuss the music methods and approaches adopted at M'KIS, especially how young learners engage with artistry. Seeing their enthusiasm for incorporating these techniques into their classrooms was rewarding.

During elementary school discussions, educators expressed curiosity about our music program at M'KIS. They were impressed that our students begin instruction in choir, band, and strings in Grade 5. I left feeling re-energized, proud of what we are building at M'KIS, and excited to implement new ideas. Above all, I look forward to continuing these conversations and seeing how these shared insights shape music education in classrooms worldwide.

Thanks to the invaluable feedback from the M'KIS leadership team and my colleagues during the presentation rehearsals. Their insights enabled me to create an inclusive and interactive experience that resonated with attendees. This experience was indeed a Tiger Times moment that celebrates the dedication, passion, and excellence of our M'KIS community!
