M’KIS Artists Meet Sculptor James Seet
By: Peak Sen Chua
At M’KIS, students have the opportunity to connect their classroom learning with the practical experience of real-life professionals!
Malaysian sculptor and artist James Seet recently visited M’KIS Grade 10 and Grade 11 students. Seet has had a distinguished career in the arts. Fascinated by the tactical nature of clay and driven by a commitment to societal causes, Seet’s work covers issues such as environmental degradation and conservation, domestic violence, and our relation to the past and present.
He has displayed his work in the United States of America, China, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. His work is also permanently exhibited in the ceramic museums in Alcora, Spain, and Shaw International Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, Canada. Seet most recently featured his work at the 2024 CIMB Artober Exhibition and held a solo exhibition, ISSUES in 2023.
During the visit, Seet presented his art work and discussed how artists can connect with an audience through their art.
Seet, in an Instagram post on his page said:
“Recently I had the privilege of speaking with young minds at Mont’ Kiara International School, where I shared my passion for working with clay as an expressive medium. It was such a heartwarming experience to see the shy but curious students who express interest in using clay to create their art—future artists, perhaps! Clay has always been more than just a material for me; it’s a way of storytelling, and it felt truly special to introduce them to this tactile, transformative world.
My hope is that this short art talk inspired them to see beyond the surface, to embrace the possibilities that lie within their hands, and to realize that art is not just about creating—it’s about connecting. I walked away from this session feeling recharged by their energy, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll create!”
