Grade 9 Explore Malaysia Trip: Redang Island

Every school year, Middle School and High School Students at Mont’ Kiara International School embark on the Explore Malaysia Trip (EMT), which takes each grade to different key landmarks and locations in Malaysia. The program reflects M'KIS’ commitment to a greater understanding and appreciation of Malaysia and embraces learning beyond the walls of the classroom. Additionally, the EMT allows students to develop personal skills, build cohesion within their year, and work and interact with local communities.

Our Grade 9 recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Redang Island, Malaysia. This trip was not just about exploring beautiful landscapes; it was about bonding, creating memories, and strengthening our community as a class. Over the course of 4 days, we immersed ourselves in the rich culture and natural beauty of Malaysia, while also deepening our friendships and teamwork.

Day 1: Batik Making Experience

The adventure began with a long journey to Kuala Terengganu  with a stop along the way to enjoy a traditional Batik making experience. We learned about the intricate process of creating this unique form of Malaysian art. Each student had the opportunity to design their own Batik, pouring their creativity into each piece. As we worked together, laughter filled the air, and we shared stories and ideas, which helped us connect on a deeper level. The joy of creating something beautiful alongside our peers made us realize how art can unite us. Our individual batik pieces are symbols of our shared experience.

Day 2: Snorkeling Adventure

We took a morning ferry to Redang Island, where the excitement was palpable. After a delicious lunch at the hotel buffet, we donned our snorkeling gear and set out on a boat to explore the vibrant underwater world. As we floated above colorful corals and schools of fish, we were not just discovering marine life; we were also discovering the thrill of adventure together. Each student had their own unique experience, but when we returned to share our stories of what we had witnessed, it was clear that these moments had brought us closer. Our collective awe of nature's beauty created bonds that would last beyond the trip.

Day 3: Beach Games

Our last day on Redang Island was filled with a whirlwind of activities, each one more exciting than the last. From snorkeling and swimming to picking up trash on the beach, we worked together for a common purpose. The highlight of the day was the beach games, where we were divided into teams and competed in various fun challenges. The atmosphere was electric as we cheered each other on, and the friendly competition fostered teamwork and communication. Each game not only tested our skills but also strengthened our friendships. By the end of the day, we were exhausted but content.

In conclusion, our trip to Redang Island was more than just a school outing; it was a journey of growth, connection, and the celebration of our Grade 9 community. We returned home not just with sand in all our suitcases and sunburns on our faces, but with a deeper understanding of each other and the importance of being together.
