ASSESSMENT IN THE PYP
Through assessment, the IB helps schools teaching the PYP to iden fy what students know, understand, can do and value at di erent stages in the teaching and learning process.
In the PYP, learning is viewed as a con nuous journey, where teachers iden fy students’ needs and use assessment data to plan the next stage of their learning.
The purposes of assessment in the PYP are to:

• Provide informa on about student learning programme.
Teachers use a wide range of assessment strategies to collect informa on on each of the elements represented in the wri en curriculum: the understanding of concepts, the acquisi on of knowledge, the mastering of skills, the development of posi ve a tudes and the ability to take responsible ac on.
THE PYP EXHIBITION
Encouraging in-depth, collabora ve inquiry, students carry out an extended, in-depth, collabora ve project known as the PYP Exhibi on in their nal year of the programme.
The PYP Exhibi on involves students working collabora vely to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real life issues or problems. Students collec vely synthesise all of the essen al elements of the PYP in ways that can be shared with the whole school community.
This provides teachers with a powerful and authen c process for assessing student understanding. The exhibi on also represents a unique and signi cant opportunity for students to showcase the a ributes of the IB learner pro le developed throughout their engagement with the programme.
