Madeleine Children's Fund
Welcome to the Madeleine Children's Fund (MCF):
The fund was initiated after a young girl named Madeleine passed away after a long but courageous fight with cancer. We aim to celebrate her memory while helping today's children diagnosed with cancer fight this disease just like little Madeleine did.
After the diagnosis the brain tumor quickly took control over her entire life, and after one year it conquered her. She is forever six years old. This or a similar scenario can happen to anyone at anytime. The only positive outcome of losing a beloved daughter, a sister and a grandchild is the way MCF can help others in a situation similar to that we experienced some years ago.

Who We Are:
The MCF committee consists of a group of concerned parents from Mont'Kiara International School (M'KIS), all 100% volunteers. We all work to support a common goal and each and everyone can do something to help out. Teachers, students and administrative staff at school are most willing to help out when it comes to yearly events such as "Cancer Awareness Week". Grade 11 and grade 12 IB-students, (International Baccalaureate), have their own program for community service. This program works together with MCF on our common goal to help children diagnosed with cancer in Malaysia.
What We Do
While trying to deal with the enormity of having a child with cancer, families are often faced with long-term periods in hospital away from their home (town). This takes a huge toll on families who are forced to spend time apart as they support their sick child. To add to the stress of coping with the sick child there are the needs of siblings or work commitments to deal with. The families are often faced with huge financial burdens. Financial support is given by MCF including assistance with medicines, travel, food expenses, goodie bags and bereavement funds.
We support the pediatric cancer wards at:
- Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM), Cheras
- Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Petaling Jaya
- Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL)
- Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah,Temerloh
We support these wards financially as well as through the more human touch e.g. visit the wards. We provide funds to purchase medical equipment on requests of the nursing and medical staff.
National Cancer Society Malaysia
We have a good working relationship with NCSM , National Cancer Society Malaysia. We support each other during the annual national cancer week. Together with NCSM we have published a handbook for parents and the booklet 'Chemophant'. This is an educational tool written by a 12 year old girl Niamh Walsh and illustrated by Mr. Yusof 'Gajah", the elephant man. Besides in English, this booklet is now available in 3 other languages; Bahasa Melaya, Mandarin and Tamil. This booklet is for sale through MCF and NCSM. NCSM hands this educational booklet out to children diagnosed with cancer at the hospitals.
MCF raises funds during the school year at MKIS. This fundraising is concentrated around the Cancer Awareness Week in October, where students, teachers and parents are involved in creating a better understanding of cancer and cancer prevention.
Among our yearly events
- Dance-a-thon, skip-a-thon and run-a-thon by students.
- Selling of MCF products.
- Christmas lunch, with bazaar and raflle.
- Cooking demonstrations.
