M'KIS Student Feature - Ayman - Grade 8

Our future is in excellent hands if students like Ayman continue to take the initiative and work towards a better world for all. Ayman, now in grade 8 at M’KIS, is from Pakistan and moved with her family to Kuala Lumpur two years ago. As her first truly international school experience, Ayman’s eyes were opened to the endless possibilities that lie in front of her and feels that she has the freedom, support and ability to achieve anything she puts her mind to.

Last summer, while making bracelets with her mom at home here in Kuala Lumpur, the idea to form a mini summer school for other kids in Pakistan was sparked. Ayman got working on a Google Site, put together a Whatsapp group, designed a Google sign-up form and prepared a two-day mini summer program that was jam packed with fun arts and crafts activities. Through networking with her parents, colleagues, and friends in Pakistan, Ayman had 21 kids sign up for her program. The program was completely supported by her mom and dad who helped her with space, projectors and anything else she needed.

Taking initiative like this and actually making a success out of it is a testimony to Ayman’s tenacity and passion for people. Ayman has a dream of becoming a positive influence on people through being a motivational speaker; however, her ultimate goal is to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Ayman, we are proud to have you and your family as part of our M’KIS Community. Keep doing what you’re doing and we know that one day you will achieve spectacular things.

M'KIS Varsity Girls' Basketball Team Takes ISAC Silver

Go Tigers! Our M'KIS Varsity Girls' Basketball team ended their local league winning 9 games out of 10. After a hard-fought championship game against ISKL, the team took home the ISAC silver medal.

Mr. Budworth, one of the team's coaches gave a brief account of their road to the championship at ISAC:

"The first game with KLASS was tough beyond compare. They are a great team with talent a grit. One of our players, Dani, went down with an ankle injury 3 minutes into the game. The other Tigers made it happen in an overtime thriller with a last-second shot for victory by our seventh-grade hero, Olivia."

This was a great result these superstars. The coaches and the M'KIS Community are very proud of you.

Grade 5 Visitor from Ericsson

Grade 5 was privileged to recently host Linda Lindberg from Ericsson. She and her son presented about a program called Connect to Learn, where Ericsson partners with local providers and companies in developing countries like Myanmar and Sri Lanka, to use technology for good. Many of Ms. Hritzuk's students chose to focus on Quality Education and Poverty for their non-fiction writing inquiry topic, as they sought to connect to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Connect to Learn project seeks to make quality education accessible for people who would otherwise not have access. Already, this project has positively impacted 76,000 students in 22 countries! We were amazed by these numbers!

Professional Development @ M'KIS

Professional development done differently! Our last professional development session involved the entire faculty and staff coming together in various classrooms around the school. Each group experienced a series of short presentations from different teachers. The goal of these sessions was for everyone to better understand the roles these teachers play and the high level of teaching and learning that occurs at M'KIS. It was great to see all the participants really enjoying themselves as they interacted with colleagues that they would usually not get the opportunity to interact with.

Press Release - M'KIS Upgrades Admissions and Upper School Offices

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  - Mont’Kiara International School (M’KIS) has announced the launch of their newly renovated admissions and upper school offices. The M’KIS Operations team and construction crew began work on the project in early December 2018 and managed to complete the project within 5 weeks.

This project was initiated due to the continuous increase in the number of admissions tours over the past year. Designed in consultation with the M'KIS Leadership team, the M’KIS Admissions department will now have significantly more space to meet with prospective families as well as additional rooms for academic screening purposes.

The upper school leadership team has been placed more centrally in relation to the middle and high school sections of the school, making the team more accessible and visible to students and parents. M’KIS has seen a more than 20% increase in growth within the middle school over the past year.

Mr. Darren Brews, The Director of Marketing and Communications at M’KIS stated, “We are excited to see the impact that these new developments will have on both the admissions and upper school departments. Each area has been carefully thought through and we believe that it will only enhance the experience here at M’KIS. We are constantly looking to innovate here at M’KIS, not just from an academic standpoint, but from a family experience standpoint as well. "
