IB PYP & MYP Candidacy

Malaysia, January 25, 2017 - Mont’Kiara International School (M’KIS) has been accepted as a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years Programmes (MYP). M’KIS has been an authorised IB World School since 2000 and currently delivers the IB Diploma Programme. Pursuing authorization to deliver the PYP and MYP programmes comes at an “exciting time” for M’KIS, as stated by the Head of School, Mr. Trevor Laboski.

One of a handful of North American Curriculum schools in Malaysia, this move towards a holistic IB offering supports the current curriculum and signals a positive move towards furthering entrenching M’KIS as a leader in international education in the country. According to the International Baccalaureate Organisation, there has been a growth rate of 45.8% globally since 2011 in relation to the number of IB programmes offered, with Asia Pacific now accounting for 16.8% of the schools offering programmes.

The journey toward becoming authorised by IB to deliver PYP and MYP programnmes is a multiple year process and is broken down into stages. This process ensures that M’KIS faculty and administrators are fully trained and familiar with all the resources available to them. M’KIS will also go through a trial implementation period of no less than one academic year, during which “the programme coordinator and other staff must attend specific IB-recognized professional development activities”, as stated by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. M’KIS will receive the full support of IB and their regional representatives.

Mont’Kiara International School is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
