“Selamat Datang” (welcome) to the Mont’Kiara International School (M’KIS) middle and high school website. The 2009-10 school year promises to be a challenging and rewarding year–a year of learning, growth, and new experiences for our students, staff, and community. Mont’Kiara has a strong reputation of academic excellence and a caring student-centered focus. Our staff is totally committed to our students and with providing them a world-class education in a compassionate environment that will nurture the attitudes and understandings necessary to produce caring, independent, productive, and responsible citizens.
Our campus is a busy, challenging, and exciting place for our students. The combination of classes during the school day, and sports and activities beyond the school day, provide our students many opportunities to learn, participate, and excel. Our staff is passionate about their academic specialties and committed to giving our students the rigor and support they need to ensure their success both here and following high school at competitive universities and colleges. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of our school is the quality of our school community. Our community is very diverse, with more than 40 nationalities represented. The M’KIS community is very involved and supportive of our programs. The M’KIS community is always welcoming to the new families joining us each year. The Mont’Kiara staff is strongly committed to our partnership with our school community.
Mont’Kiara is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States and just completed a very successful accreditation review this past school year. We set high standards and our students benefit from an academic program that offers both rigor and variety. This program supports students in meeting our five Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs). Our students will become:
- Critical thinkers,
- Academic achievers,
- Involved citizens,
- Effective communicators, and
- Self-directed learners.
Middle school students’ core program courses include English, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education. Students have six required subjects to take each year plus two elective subjects. They have a wide variety of elective courses they may choose such as modern languages, music, art, drama, and dance. Middle school students also have the opportunity to take single quarter exploratory courses such as Malaysian and global studies, information technology, health, and research and study skills. Our middle school has a very active student council. The middle school also recently hosted a very successful Middle Years Model United Nations (MYMUN) conference at M'KIS.
We offer an exceptional North American college preparatory curriculum in the high school with challenging core courses, a wide range of electives, as well as our highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma program for our 11th and 12th grade students, All Mont’Kiara graduates earn the M’KIS diploma and students may also choose to study for the IB diploma or seek to earn one or more IB certificates. Our students and teachers also spend time exploring Malaysian culture and performing valuable community service activities, which serve to connect them more closely with their community and their responsibilities as world citizens.
Whether you currently reside in Kuala Lumpur or are just moving into our community, I hope you will consider Mont’Kiara International School as a great choice for your children. Please feel free to contact me or visit our campus for more information on our programs.
