High School IB Program
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program offers students a challenging and rewarding academic experience that leads to one of the most widely recognized external qualifications in the world. Mont'Kiara International School recognizes the IB Diploma Program as fully consistent with our school mission and ethos. Coordinated by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) based in Switzerland, the program offers students the choice of taking the full IB Diploma, or taking individual IB Certificates.
Both the Diploma and Certificates are programs that help students realize their best academic potential. IB students work very hard, and the work habits they learn are an important preparation for university. IB students often find the transition to university easier than non-IB students, simply because the program helps them acquire the skills they need for post-secondary study. Moreover IB programs ‘promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge. By focusing on the dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, independent critical and creative thought and international mindedness, the IBO espouses the principles of educating the whole person for a life of active responsible citizenship’ (IB Learner Profile). All students at M’KIS are encouraged to challenge themselves by taking either the Diploma or Certificate courses.
The IB program at M'KIS has gone from strength to strength since it began back in 2001. This has been driven by the increasing number of students willing to undertake the program and their outstanding results over the years.
For May 2009 the M’KIS student participation rate in the diploma program was 65.5%. This is above the world average, which for May 2008 was 44.25%
