Reports To: Elementary School Principal
Primary Functions:
- Foster the academic, social, and emotional growth of students through differentiated and inclusive teaching practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate support into the general curriculum, upholding the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) philosophy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Instructional Support
1. Work with students individually and in small groups to enhance academic skills and address specific learning challenges.
2. Design and implement Individual Student Support Plans (ISSP) tailored to varied learning needs.
3. Employ differentiated instructional strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
4. Integrate age-appropriate activities and teaching methods that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and inclusion.
Collaboration and Integration
5. Partner with homeroom and specialist teachers to create an inclusive learning environment aligned with the IB PYP.
6. Communicate regularly with parents and school staff to support student learning and progress.
7. Participate in planning and coordinating school-wide events that promote a sense of community and enrich the learning experience.
Assessment and Monitoring
8. Conduct formative and summative assessments to track and evaluate student progress.
9. Maintain detailed records of student development and adjust educational strategies as needed.
10. Provide regular feedback to students and parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences and reporting.
Professional Development and Learning
11. Stay current with the latest educational research, particularly related to the IB PYP framework and inclusive teaching practices.
12. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional skills and knowledge.
13. Contribute to and participate in school-wide team meetings and professional learning communities.
Classroom Environment and Safety
14. Create a classroom atmosphere that embodies the principles of the IB PYP, supporting diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
15. Ensure the safety and well-being of students during classes, breaks, and school activities.
16. Implement strategies that support social-emotional learning and build resilience in students.
Communication and Engagement
17. Foster effective communication with parents, staff, and administrators to maintain transparency and collaboration.
18. Prepare informative updates and newsletters for parents and the school community.
19. Engage with students in a way that promotes a positive and supportive classroom culture.
Additional Duties
- Supervise at least two after-school sports, clubs, or activities.
- Assist with school-day duties, including break and lunchtime supervision.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Education is preferred.
- Teaching diploma, certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in an IB PYP setting.
- Strong understanding of the IB PYP framework and inclusive education practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to support diverse learners.
