Reports To: Middle/High School Principal
 

Primary Functions

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in mathematics for both Middle Years Programme (MYP) and high school levels, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of mathematical concepts.
  • Promote inquiry-based, student-centered learning that aligns with the IB curriculum framework and philosophy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure excellence in teaching and learning across the IB Mathematics program.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Delivery

1. Design and deliver engaging, inquiry-based mathematics lessons for grades 6–10 (MYP) and high school levels, aligned with IB standards.

2. Incorporate real-world applications, interdisciplinary themes, and cross-curricular connections to enhance student understanding.

3. Adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs, ensuring inclusivity and equity in the classroom.

 

Planning and Coordination

4. Collaborate with colleagues to refine curriculum materials and interdisciplinary projects that align with the IB framework.

5. Develop lesson plans and resources that cater to varied learning styles, promoting active student engagement.

6. Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events that celebrate academic achievement and global citizenship.

 

Assessment and Feedback

7. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress against IB criteria.

8. Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth and preparation for internal and external assessments.

9. Maintain accurate records of student performance and participate in parent-teacher conferences, offering detailed progress reports.

 

Professional Development and Collaboration

10. Participate in IB-specific training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on curriculum changes and best practices.

11. Engage in departmental and interdisciplinary team meetings to share strategies and enhance instructional methods.

12. Pursue continuous professional growth to stay current with trends in mathematics education and inquiry-based learning.

 

Communication and Engagement

13. Maintain clear, effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues about curriculum expectations, student progress, and classroom activities.

14. Contribute to school communication platforms, such as newsletters and presentations, highlighting student achievements and learning experiences.

 

Cultural Leadership

15. Foster a classroom environment that values critical inquiry, cultural diversity, and intellectual curiosity.

16. Support student projects, including the MYP Personal Project or Diploma Programme (DP) Internal Assessments, encouraging independent research and critical thinking.

 

Student Support and Safety

17. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

18. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with special educational needs or varying levels of mathematical ability.

 

Additional Duties

  • Supervise at least one after-school sport, club, or activity.
  • Chaperone one after-school event (e.g., prom, school socials).
  • Assist with school day duties, such as break and lunchtime supervision.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, with a specialization in Mathematics or a related field, is required. A Master’s degree in Education is preferred.
  • Teaching diploma, certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in an IB MYP setting.
  • Strong understanding of IB philosophy and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative, student-centered classroom.
