Reports To: Middle/High School Principal
Primary Functions:
- Provide leadership and organization for the high school library program within Mont’Kiara International School.
- Foster a love of reading, research, and inquiry through dynamic library activities and resources.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support high academic standards in teaching and learning aligned with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).
Duties & Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Delivery
1. Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate library lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks.
2. Integrate literature, research skills, and information literacy into curriculum activities to create meaningful, real-world learning connections.
3. Promote the importance of reading, critical thinking, and media literacy through interactive storytelling, workshops, and library programs.
Planning and Coordination
4. Collaborate with high school teachers across disciplines to incorporate library resources and activities into the broader curriculum.
5. Develop and coordinate a library schedule that accommodates the diverse needs of students and faculty.
6. Plan and oversee school-wide events such as book fairs, literacy nights, author talks, and guest speaker sessions.
Assessment and Feedback
7. Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ progress in research, literacy, and academic growth.
8. Maintain accurate records of student participation and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and school leadership.
9. Engage in parent-teacher conferences to share insights regarding students’ reading and research skills development.
Resource Management
10. Manage and curate the library collection to ensure it is diverse, up-to-date, and accessible, fostering a safe and engaging learning environment.
11. Work with school leadership to propose and secure funding for books, digital resources, and library program enhancements.
Professional Development and Collaboration
12. Lead or participate in professional development workshops for staff to support the integration of library resources into classroom instruction.
13. Contribute to faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and professional learning communities to enhance curriculum and teaching practices.
14. Keep up-to-date with current best practices in library science and IB methodologies through ongoing professional development.
Communication and Engagement
15. Maintain proactive communication with students, parents, staff, and school administrators about library activities, programs, and student achievements.
16. Develop newsletters, presentations, or other updates to highlight library events and student success.
Cultural Leadership
17. Foster an inclusive library environment that celebrates diversity and promotes collaboration among students.
18. Lead initiatives and school events that promote cultural awareness and global perspectives, including author visits and multicultural literacy programs.
Student Support and Safety
19. Ensure the safety and well-being of students during library activities and school events.
20. Differentiate instruction to support students with varying literacy levels and learning needs, ensuring equitable access to resources.
Additional Duties
- Supervise at least one after-school sport, club, or activity.
- Chaperone one after-school event (e.g., prom, school socials).
- Assist with school day duties, such as break and lunchtime supervision.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Experience with the MYP and DP program is also preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience, preferably in an IB International School setting.
- Proficiency in educational technology and digital library systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
