Primary Functions
- Cultivate lifelong healthy habits, teamwork, and resilience through engaging physical activities.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure teaching and learning meet high standards and align with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
Duties & Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Delivery
1. Design and deliver a structured physical education curriculum that aligns with the IB standards and fosters students’ physical skills, fitness, and sportsmanship.
2. Integrate movement and fitness education within cross-curricular connections for meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
3. Promote the value of health, fitness, and well-being through various physical activities and challenges.
Planning and Coordination
4. Work collaboratively with subject area teachers to create an interdisciplinary approach that integrates physical education with other subjects.
5. Organize and coordinate physical education schedules and activities that accommodate the needs of diverse learners.
6. Plan and participate in school-wide events, such as sports days and wellness initiatives, to enhance community engagement and school spirit.
Assessment and Feedback
7. Use both formative and summative assessments to measure student progress in physical fitness, skill development, and character building.
8. Maintain thorough records of student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback to students, parents, and school leadership.
9. Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss students’ development and well-being in physical education.
Resource Management
10. Oversee the maintenance and organization of physical education equipment to ensure a safe and stimulating environment for learning.
11. Collaborate with school leadership to propose enhancements and secure resources for program improvements.
Professional Development and Collaboration
12. Lead or participate in professional development opportunities related to physical education, fitness, and IB methodologies.
13. Contribute to school meetings, grade-level planning, and professional learning communities to support curriculum alignment and teaching effectiveness.
14. Stay current with best practices in physical education and IB education through ongoing professional development.
Communication and Engagement
15. Maintain open communication with stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, and administrators, regarding physical education curriculum, events, and student progress.
16. Create communications such as newsletters or presentations to highlight student achievements and physical education activities.
Cultural Leadership
17. Promote an inclusive environment that values diversity and teaches students the importance of cooperation and respect in sports and fitness.
18. Plan and oversee events, such as guest speaker sessions and school-wide sports showcases, that encourage school spirit and community involvement.
Student Support and Safety
19. Ensure the safety and well-being of students during physical education classes and extracurricular activities.
20. Differentiate instruction to support students with various physical abilities and needs, ensuring equal participation.
Additional Duties
- Supervise at least one after-school sport, club, or activity.
- Chaperone one after-school event (e.g., prom, school socials).
- Assist with school day duties, such as break and lunchtime supervision.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education is required. A Master’s degree in Education is preferred.
- Teaching diploma, certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in an IB International School setting.
- Experience teaching PE within the IB framework.
