Committees

All parents of students attending M'KIS are members. No formal introduction is needed, and there is no charge to join the PA Faculty members are also welcome to participate in the Parent Association.

 

Berita 

Berita M’KIS is the magazine issued by the Parents Association. It contains various news, information, photographs and stories provided by students, parents and staff.  Come assist us with writing, proof-reading, distribution, collating, advertising and layout.  No experience required.

Book Fair 

In the Fall and Spring, new books are available for students and parents to purchase at a Book Fair.  Committee members help with ordering, pricing, set-up and selling.

Country Representatives 

The role of the Country Representative is to welcome new families and assist with any enquiries they have with regard to the school community.  The rep also organizes the country’s involvement in the school-wide United Nations Day and Mari Makan. 

Carpet Auction 

Every year the PA hosts carpet auction to raise money for PA activities, Madeleine’s Children’s Foundation, etc.  The chairperson coordinates the event venue, date, time, etc. and publicity.

Elementary Parent Representative 

The Elementary Parent Group is a forum for sharing relevant information on topics of interest to parents of children in ES.  The Chairperson books the venue and refreshments and liaises with the Elementary Principal to organize the agenda and advertise the meetings. The Committee also organizes the Elementary Room Parents and disseminates information from the PA.

Fun Fair 

Fun Fair is an annual fundraising event for held in the last part of the school year.  The Chairperson, with assistance from the Committee, determines the format and activities.  Committee members solicit sponsorship; organize printing, ticket sales, publicity, signage, entertainment, game booths, food, vendors and exhibitors, etc.

Grade 8 Dinner 

This group, in conjunction with M’KIS staff, will assist in planning and organizing the Grade 8 Graduation Dinner.

Halloween Party 

The Halloween party is an event organized primarily for the Elementary School community for a Friday night in late October each year.  The Committee will determine the date, format and activities.  Volunteer activities may include publicity, decorations, food, activities/games and prizes/candy.

Hospitality Committee 

This Committee is responsible for organizing events that bringnewcomers into the school community.  The committee welcomes new parents into theschoolwith formally organized Newcomers Coffee Mornings (August and January), informal coffee mornings throughout the year, and a ‘welcome table’ in the breezeway/cafeteria.

Learning Awareness 

This Committee is a support group for parents of children with learning differences such as ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, gifted and talented, etc,  The group meets periodically and speakers are invited on an occasional basis. 

Little League 

M’KIS Little League is a parent-organized and parent-run Saturday morning sports program consisting of soccer, basketball and baseball for children ES to Grade 5.  The Little League/Youth League Commissioner and Co-Commissioner are responsible for identifying Coordinators for each of the sports, contacting sponsors or funds, organizing playing dates for all sports, assisting Coordinators with ordering uniforms, etc.  Coordinators are responsible for the organizing teams, coaches and hiring referees for all games.

The Madeleine Children's Fund 

This group will focus on organizing fund raising activities (free dress day, cancer awareness week, jump-a-thon, etc) to support the Madeleine Children’s Fund throughout the school year. This group will work in conjunction with friends of HUKM and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Pediatric Cancer Ward.

Mari Makan

Mari Makan is an annual International Food Night, held at the school during the second half of the year.  It is a time for the M’KIS adult community to gather, socialize and eat wonderful food.  Committee members will be asked to co-ordinate and liaise with the Country Representatives, organize the printing and sale of tickets, help plan and decorate the venue, publicize the event and provide assistance with setting-up and cleaning-up on the night.

Middle/High School Representative

A parent representative from each grade level will liaise periodically with the Middle/High School Principal and be a conduit for information for parents.  That person will also organize a couple of informal coffee mornings per semester.

Middle School Social Nights 

This committee arranges social events approximately once every 6 weeks for the Middle school students, with the aim of providing a venue for middle school students to socialize and enjoy an evening of fun and activity.  Help is needed to arrange activities, organize food, chaperone, publicize the event and sell tickets.

Each year the PA sponsors a staff appreciation luncheon to thank them for all the wonderful work they do for the school.  The chairperson coordinates the catering, sets the date and time.
