“Selamat Datang” (welcome) to the Mont’Kiara International School (M’KIS) middle and high school website. The 2012-13 school year promises to be a challenging and rewarding year – a year of learning, growth, and new experiences for our students, faculty, and community. M’KIS has a strong reputation of academic excellence and a caring, student-centered approach to education. Our faculty members are totally committed to our students and to providing each of them with a world-class education in a compassionate, caring environment that will nurture the attitudes and understandings necessary to produce caring, independent, productive, and responsible citizens.

Our campus is a very busy, challenging, and exciting place for our students. Our faculty is passionate about their academic specialties and committed to preparing our students to succeed both here and following high school at competitive universities and colleges. Rigorous academic offerings, a full range of sports after school as well as clubs and service programs provide our students a well-rounded experience that nurtures their academic, physical, social, extracurricular, and leadership development. A distinguishing feature of our school is the truly diverse and international composition of our student body. We have just over 1000 students representing 57 nationalities with no single dominate nationality but rather a very nice mix. Our students truly experience and understand global citizenship. You will find our M’KIS school community is always welcoming to the new families joining us each year. Our school staff enjoys a wonderful partnership with our school families.

M’KIS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the United States. We just completed hosting a WASC visit to our school this past March and received very high ratings in all areas assessed, receiving the longest accreditation term offered – 6 years! As the WASC accreditation team verified, we set high standards and our students benefit from an academic program that offers both rigor and variety. This program supports our students in meeting our five Expected School-Wide Learning Results (ESLRs). Our students will become:

  • Academic Achievers,

  • Critical Thinkers,

  • Effective Communicators,

  • Involved Citizens, and

  • Self-Directed Learners.

Middle school students’ core program courses include English, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education. Students have six required subjects to take each year plus two elective subjects. They have a wide range of elective courses they may choose such as modern languages, music, art, drama, and dance. Middle school students also have the opportunity to take single quarter exploratory courses such as Malaysian Studies, information technology, health, speech communication, and study skills. Our middle school has very active Student Council, Helping Hands, and Model United Nations programs. We host a very successful annual MYMUN conference at M’KIS.

We offer an exceptional North American college preparatory curriculum in the high school with challenging core courses, a wide range of electives, as well as our highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for our grade 11 and 12 students. All Mont’Kiara International School graduates earn the M’KIS diploma and students may also choose to study for the IB diploma or seek to earn one or more IB certificates. Our students and teachers also spend time exploring the Malaysian culture and performing valuable community service activities, which serve to connect our students more closely with their local community and their responsibilities as world citizens.

Whether you currently reside in Kuala Lumpur or are just moving into our community, I hope you will consider Mont’Kiara International School as a great choice for your children. Please feel free to contact me or visit our campus for more information on our programs.

Sincerely,
Gary P. Melton
