Elementary School Overview
Thank you for your interest in the Elementary School at M’KIS. Our Elementary School serves students in Kindergarten Preparatory (KP – 3 & 4 years old) upward through grade five (10 & 11 years old).
We strive to meet the demands of an ever-changing world by promoting the M’KIS School Mission, Beliefs, and our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs). Elementary school programs and policies are based on these core documents which define M’KIS. We are proud to say that our faculty, student body and families are dedicated to providing our students a world class education.
Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) - Grades KP, KPA, and Kindergarten
M’KIS provides a developmentally appropriate educational program for children from ages three through six. At all levels we stress skills of independence and autonomy, encouraging students to develop self control, pride in accomplishments, and enjoyment of learning. We recognize all students are unique with varying learning styles, skills, and intelligences which develop continuously. Students participate in a wide variety of developmentally appropriate instructional activities. Please see the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Student and Parent Handbook for further information (it can be found after the Elementary Principal’s message as a PDF file).
Grades One to Five
Students in grades one through five receive developmentally appropriate instruction in both the core curriculum and specialist areas. The Language Arts program utilizes a balanced literacy approach and students receive extensive exposure to a variety of writing processes and skills. The Mathematics program is problem solving based and progresses from concrete to abstract concepts. The Science program integrates science, technology and health; it involves active, hands-on science experiences for students. The Social Studies program utilizes international themes and topics. Each grade level studies topics surrounding the themes of geography, history and society while taking advantage of the cultural richness of Malaysia. Specialist areas include Information Technology, Art, Physical Education, Music, Malaysian Studies, and World Languages. Please see the Elementary School Student and Parent Handbook for further information (it can be found after the Elementary Principal’s message as a PDF file).
