Here are some of our most frequently asked questions

 How many children attend M'KIS?

M'KIS has an enrolment of 940 students with approximately 500 of that number in the Elementary School, and the remainder in the Middle School and High School.

How many children are in each class?

Normally, class size will not go beyond 21 students per class. Early Childhood classes typically have an enrolment of 16 students.

How are the North American and British educational systems different?

Both systems offer a strong academic orientation in their programs, and have many similarities. A key difference lies in the British system placing emphasis on an end-point examination, whereas the North American system places emphasis on assessing ongoing progress and frequent evaluations.

How does M'KIS differentiate instruction?

The use of diagnostic assessment informs initial plans and lessons within each class at M'KIS. This initial assessment is followed by regular formative and summative assessment that serves to guide instruction for each individual student. Multiple resources at varying levels of difficulty are made available for each class that also serves to support differentiation.

How does M'KIS determine if a child needs ELL assistance?

If the initial admission screen or prior school records indicate that English may not be at a proficiency level that would promote success at M'KIS without support, candidates are asessed further by Support Services faculty members using more specialised assessment tools.

What day can my child start school?

All students applying to M'KIS need to complete the assessment process prior to the formal admission decision. After the assessment is complete, a decision will be made and the first day of school determined for your child. If the assessment process is completed and admission is approved before school begins in August, your child can attend the first day of the school year.

Does payment of the Application Fee ensure my child is enrolled at M'KIS?

No, the payment of the application fee is to open a file with the school. Following this step, the assessment process must be completed, and a decision made by the Principal or Headmaster. Only upon completion of this process, in full, can a child be admitted to M'KIS.

Does my child need to complete the assessment?

Yes, all applicants must complete the assessment, regardless of their English language proficiency or previous schools attended.

What is the timeline for an admission decision?

Upon completion of the interview and assessment process, the school strives to make a decision and notify parents within 3 - 4 days and, in any case, by no later than one week following the assessment.

Can we visit a classroom?

Most certainly. Visits are encouraged and warmly invited. However, in respect to all learners in the classroom to be visited, an appointment is required.

Is there a waiting list?

If space is unavailable at a certain grade level, all applicants are placed on a Candidate Wait List. When a place becomes available, the school selects the candidate based on the criteria set out in the application.
