Middle School and High School (MS and HS) Celebrates Global Village Day 2024!
By: MS and HS Language Acquisition Team
On Friday, September 27th, Middle School and High School (MS and HS) students gathered for an exciting Global Village Day, with many members of the community dressed in their national costumes or wearing the colors of their home countries.
After enjoying a delicious international lunch hosted by the Parent Association, everyone was eager to dive into an afternoon of cultural activities during the last block of the day.
The event, organized by the MS and HS language acquisition teachers, featured various booths where students could experience the languages and cultures taught at school. Each booth offered a mix of language challenges, games, and crafts, creating an enjoyable, hands-on way to learn about different cultures.
Two of the booths, for instance, were the Korean and Chinese stations. Students explored Korean culture by playing traditional games, writing Hangeul, and dressing in traditional Korean clothing for a fun photo booth.
The Chinese booth showcased Jianzi, a traditional shuttlecock game that has been part of Chinese culture for centuries. Students were taught how to use their feet to kick a shuttlecock while working in teams. After the final round, students won lanterns, fans, and washable dragon tattoos as prizes.
One student shared their excitement, saying, “It was so cool to learn about different cultures while having fun! I didn’t realize how much we could learn just by playing games and trying out new words.”
Teachers were equally enthusiastic. Mr. John Newman, a science and math teacher, remarked, “I loved seeing the students so involved and excited to learn about new cultures. It’s great to have an event like this where they get to experience diversity firsthand.”
Thanks to the dedication of the teachers and the students' enthusiastic participation, Global Village Day was a memorable celebration of diversity that brought the MS and HS community together!
